Well Phooey

The Monday interview called & canceled. Apparently they are changing payroll processors (from Paychex to ADP), and they want to wait until they finish the conversion before interviewing anyone. They want to make sure they know what kind of employee they're really going to need once it's all said & done. So...they'll call me in a few weeks & see if I'm still available for an interview.

Busy Little Bee

So, Sunday the 18th, after losing nearly 4 weeks to the interviews at Triage, I decided to just post my resume on Monster & CareerBuilder and see who called. I've gotten a few calls from temp agencies, which I have politely turned down. No matter how bad I want to leave my current job, I won't trade paid bennies & accrued vacation for a 'maybe.' So, on 5/21, I got called by a placement company. I told them straight up that I wasn't looking for temp work, and the gentleman informed me that he only handled permanent placements & that he wanted to discuss a position in San Ramon with me. So, I took a long lunch & went to Walnut Creek to talk with the guy. He really liked me & sent my resume on to the company in San Ramon. On 5/22, I got a voicemail from a guy in New York. I guess he's the Director of HR for a tech firm that's based in SF (almost under the Bay Bridge) and has a handful of other offices throughout the country. They've got a payroll position he really wants me to interview for. I left him a message, and then finally got to talk to him yesterday for about 10 minutes. He really seemed to like me & said he'd call me back today to set up an interview. This morning, I had an interview with the company in San Ramon. They seemed pretty impressed with me & want me to come back on a day they are processing payroll so that I can see what I may be in for with them. The placement firm told me that they've only asked 1 other person for a 2nd interview, and that person decided against it because of the commute. The commute is great for me...only 1/2 of what I do now. The New York guy called me later, I have an interview Monday @ 5 at the office in SF. It's maybe about 1/2 mile from the Embarcadero BART...shouldn't be a bad walk. So, that's all for now. I'll be checking out Monster & CareerBuilder this weekend & sending out resumes to anything that looks decent, but I don't seem to be doing too bad at the moment.

Misread

I like trying to parse out what vanity plates are trying to convey. Seen Friday before going to Baycon - DVLUKNO Rik interpreted it correctly as Devil You Know. I on the other hand saw - Devil? Uk! No!

I had no idea

That I was so well thought of. The coordinator for the Odyssey program tonight told me that when she was trying to find a last minute person for the caning demos...3 people recommended me.

More on Costume

In addition to the Treasure Chest...as a result of a suggestion from a friend of mine who is a master costumer... I'm adding a pirate booty to my outfit (chest, booty...get it? yeah I know, pretty bad) :) I finished the clothing part of the outfit last night...and I'll be gluing (adhesing?) more stuff to my chest Saturday night when I wear the outfit.

This Thursday

I'm going to be at Edges, assisting with the Odyssey tasting class (demo?) The person scheduled to present/demo on caning had to cancel...and for some strange reason I got asked to fill in. Anyone else going?

Full Of Fail

So, the company that wanted me to interview for an Office Manager position finally called me back this morning (after promising to call me back before the end of last week). They decided to continue looking for someone with more facilities, and office space management skills. I told them from the get-go that I did not have these skills...and I really feel like the last 3 weeks has been a total waste of my time & energy. To add insult to injury... I get a call from this company http://www.insightglobal.net/aboutus.html A temp agency for IT jobs is calling me? But...my background is Human Resources and (over 6 years ago) Accounts Payable. They wanted to talk to me about a job at VMWare as a Financial Analyst. I asked the recruiter what in my resume led her to believe that I was qualified for that job. She said 'well you have a payroll background...' I said, yeah and I'm in Human Resources, not Accounting. 'But...you do payroll, that should be ok...' I politely thanked her for calling but said I was going to pass on the position.

Update of the Update

The 2nd interview is on 5/9. Now the question is...do I keep submitting resumes (if there's anything worth it), or hold off? I haven't submitted any in 2 weeks...but there also has been nothing that's said WOW to me either.
