KER-RUNCH

So....guess who got rear ended this morning, on their way to work? (sigh) My poor PT, this is the 3rd accident I've had since I bought it. I was on 580 East (far right lane), in between the exits for San Ramon Blvd. & 680 North/South. Traffic is usually pretty hairy around there, so I tend to drive slower than usual, to be able to react better if something happens. Today, traffic had come to a complete stop...and so did I, a good distance away from the car ahead of me. Before I even knew what happened, the car behind me just plowed right into me. Lucky for me I had left the distance between me & the car in front, otherwise I would have had a PT sandwich. The guy who hit me was real upset...and also in a real hurry to get out of there. He claimed he was trying to get his elderly father to the hospital, for a morning surgery. He gave me all his info, but wouldn't wait for CHP to arrive & take a report....so off he went. CHP arrived about 5 minutes after the guy left. I told them everything from my POV, and I gave them all the other drivers info. CHP said that even though I got his info, they were going to consider it a hit & run, since the guy didn't wait for them to get there. I finally got everything squared away shortly after 8AM, and got back on the road to work. When I got to work, I got on the phone with GEICO (who were fantastic by the way)....and realized that the CHP officer had kept the paper that had all the other persons' info on it...so all I could tell GEICO was the guys' name, rough make of the car, part of the license plate & what the name of his insurance carrier was. GEICO said for now, they'll process the claim under my liability, and as soon as I can get my notes back from CHP, GEICO will take the rest of the info & go after the other guys' insurance. Friday morning, I take the car into a shop in Oakland & a Claims Adjuster will meet me there. I can get a rental if I want it, but I think I'll just borrow Rik's car instead (no not the hearse). As far as my untrained eye can tell, the bumper & back door (hatchback?) is totaled & will need to be replaced. Additionally, there's the custom paint to factor in too. Luckily, when I signed up with GEICO, I opted to pay a little extra, so that they will replace the custom paint job if anything happens to it. I'm thinking all that'll need to be paint matched is the new parts...I can't imagine them having to re-do more than that. That's all for now. Updates as I get them. OH, and before you ask....no I don't think I'm hurt. I have been having neck pains for the last few weeks, so it's hard for me to tell if I'm any better or worse right now. I am seeing my chiropractor Friday (it's the soonest he's free), so I guess I'll know more health-wise then.
